What is Warehousing and Fulfillment?
Warehousing and fulfillment in a broad sense means storing and managing your inventory in a warehouse. A warehouse is a commercial building used for the storage of goods, also known as commercial warehousing. It can also be an informal place such as your friend’s unused garage, as long as there is a self-storage facility where your inventory is stored safely.
The word “fulfillment” is used in relation to goods shipment in terms of “order fulfillment” and “product fulfillment”, introduced by businesses in supply chain. A fulfillment centre or fulfillment house is an added service of a warehouse, receiving instructions and handling the order from the goods in the warehouse. For example if ABC stores 100 pairs of shoes, you would have to send word to your fulfillment house through email, fax, etc, and they will handle the order for you. Some other fulfillment services include quality control processes, client service practices and postage.
What are some of the processes involved?
Real Time Tracking and Reporting
Some companies offer real time reporting and inventory tracking all day long on their system interface platform. Email alerts will be sent once a day to notify on inventory levels and depletion rates based on orders and statistics. When goods are returned, a detailed visual check on unopened undamaged products is conducted before returning them to the inventory. The returned good will immediately be back on the inventory system. Customers will be able to get an overview of their inventory at any time, allowing them to access data on products shipped, returns, postage and more.
Fees and Charges
Firstly, a setup fee is imposed for you as a new client. Next, when your goods arrive at the warehouse, a receiving packages fee is charge. A storage fee either by cubic metres or pallets is then charged depending on how large your goods are to be stored in the warehouse. A stacking and shelving fee per box of your goods is also charged. Per-order or per-item fee is additionally charged based on the quantity of goods in pieces. A packaging and boxing fee is also included if your goods are of odd sizes or an existing box needs to be broken open and repacked. Lastly, a shipping label fee is also included.
