  • Baby Milk powder

Types of Shipment Modes

Less than Container Load (LCL)

Sometimes, a shipper does not have enough goods to fill the entire container, i.e. there is still some space available in the container for other goods. In such cases, the transporter arranges for a consolidator with a view to book his cargo. Here, the shipping owner books the whole container and accepts goods and cargo from various shippers and loads them onto the container.

LCL can be assumed to be an economical shipping method for smaller shipments. One gets charged only as per the volume space utilized. However, there is a possibility of your goods being damaged as you cannot choose the nature of other shipping goods that will be loaded with yours.

Full Container Load (FCL)

Whenever an exporter or a transporter books the whole container with his supplier, then it is called an FCL shipment. A transporter can book a whole container if he has enough goods to fill it or if he has fragile items that cannot be shipped with other cargo.

FCL is advantageous as the whole container is owned by a single transporter and there remains no risk of misplacement or damage of the products.  Transportation via FCL is also steadier than LCL as all goods in the container are transported to the same location. FCL is lesser expensive than LCL as one is charged the shipping cost per unit.

Shipment Duration

The time that shipment will take depends on the type of shipping method being selected, and the port of departure. If the destination city is Guangzhou, China, it may take around 12 days for the goods to be shipped.

Of course, if you chose to do your shipping from Singapore to China by air freight, the duration would be a lot shorter but the shipping costs would be higher too.

Shipping Procedures

Exporting goods to China is a tricky procedure as the Chinese government enacts stringent rules such as CCC or the China Compulsory Certification which has to be attached to each and every good that is being imported to China.

A shipper is liable to follow the below mentioned steps for exporting goods from Singapore to China:

  • Appraisal of Controlled Goods

The exporter should double-check if the goods, to be traded, are allowed or restricted by both Singapore and China governments.

  • Operate Customs Account

The exporter should have a properly updated UEN, and a customs account. Once the genuine UEN authorities have issued UEN, one can easily activate his customs account. Before starting off with shipping, the transporter or the shipper takes payment from the seller. He can either take the full payment or in advance.

  • Acquire Customs Export Permit

Acquiring a Customs Export Permit through the Singapore Custom’s TradeNet system is mandatory. The exporter is liable to carry export permit while exporting domestically produced goods, goods from Free Trade Zone, non-dutiable goods from a zero-GST warehouse, dutiable goods from a registered warehouse, etc.

  • Proper Documents for Cargo Clearance

If the goods that are being shipped are dutiable, then the exporter has to present certain documents at the checkpoint. In such cases, all the documents related to the container including bills, packing lost, invoice, and license have to be kept either physically or digitally by the transporter.

Prohibited Items in China

The Chinese government does not allow the import of certain items to their country. Goods that are prohibited in China are listed as follows:

Weapons and ammunitions
Fake currencies
Printed matter or digital matter*
Weapons and ammunitions not allowed
Fake currencies not allowed
