Types of Shipment Modes
Less than Container Load (LCL)
Sometimes, a shipper does not have enough goods to fill the entire container, i.e. there is still some space available in the container for other goods. In such cases, the transporter arranges for a consolidator with a view to book his cargo. Here, the shipping owner books the whole container and accepts goods and cargo from various shippers and loads them onto the container.
LCL shipping can be assumed to be an economical shipping method for smaller shipments. One gets charged only as per the volume space utilized. However, there is a possibility of your goods being damaged as you cannot choose the nature of other shipping goods that will be loaded with yours.
Full Container Load (FCL)
Whenever an exporter or a transporter books the whole container with his supplier, then it is called an FCL shipment. A transporter can book a whole container if he has enough goods to fill it or if he has fragile items that cannot be shipped with other cargo.
FCL is advantageous as the whole container is owned by a single transporter and there remains no risk of misplacement or damage of the products. Transportation via FCL is also steadier than LCL as all goods in the container are transported to the same location. FCL is lesser expensive than LCL as one is charged the shipping cost per unit.
Shipment Duration
The time that shipment will take depends on the type of shipping method being selected, and the port of departure. If the destination city is Guangzhou, China, it may take around 12 days for the goods to be shipped.
Of course, if you chose to do your shipping from Singapore to China by air freight, the duration would be a lot shorter but the shipping costs would be higher too.
Shipping Procedures
