Door to door delivery is the shipment of goods from one place right to its final destination. For example, when a product is picked up from a seller’s warehouse and transported directly to a customer’s doorstep.
Trucking is the most common method used for door to door deliveries from Singapore to Malaysia. At times, cargo may be shipped across the border via air or sea freight first, followed by trucking for last mile delivery.
Parcels, pallets or bulky items may be transported using trucking services, benefitting both businesses and consumers.

Imagine you are a furniture manufacturer in Singapore looking to expand your business. A furniture shop in Johor Bahru wants to start carrying your best-selling dining chair and has placed an order for 20 sets.
You have contracted a freight forwarder to ship your chairs to your client’s store in Malaysia, opting for a less-than-truckload (LTL) shipment to save cost. Here are the following steps that will take place.
Since you have decided on an LTL shipment, your products will be transported to a facility for consolidation. Here, your chairs will be carefully packed onto a truck with other freight to optimise space.
In the event that your shipment is a full truckload (FTL), it will proceed directly to border customs without the need for consolidation.
The truck will then head to the border for customs clearance, where cargo will be inspected by Singapore and Malaysia customs officials.
They will assess the shipping documentation (e.g. Bill of Lading, commercial invoice) and duties payments (handled by your forwarding agent beforehand). Once cleared, the truck will continue its journey into Johor.
The truck will then head to a sorting facility to be deconsolidated. Afterwhich, your chairs will be loaded onto another truck for dispatch.
FTL shipments will be dispatched after clearance, without the need for deconsolidation.
Trucking is typically the cheapest option for cross border door to door deliveries, compared to sea and air freight.
This is especially true if you are transporting smaller loads of cargo as the cost of fuel and vehicle maintenance for trucking is lower. As goods are shipped directly from warehouse to doorstep, you can also avoid incurring additional storage costs.
Goods go through quicker, more fuss-free routes when transported via trucking. Extra steps from intermodal shipping are cut out, such as deconsolidating large volumes of containers and warehousing.
