What is Container Trucking?
Container trucking refers to the use of commercial trucks to carry standardised shipping containers made of weatherproof steel. This is a specialised form of trucking as the trucks involved are tailored to support the dimensions of the container as well as the weight of the shipment within. In general, there are 2 modes of container trucking, namely, full truckload (FTL) and less-than full truckload shipping (LTL) with the main difference being the owner of the cargo within the container.
Why is there a need for Container Trucking?
Container trucking was on the rise after the shipping industry began adopting standardised containers for the transportation of goods. This allowed a large-scale production of vessels that are specially catered towards the size and weight of containers and led to an increase in efficiency when transporting full-container loads (FCL).
Apart for container trucking being used as the sole mode of transportation, it is also commonly paired with other modes to compliment them when traversing across land routes.
